Our first In Conversation event of 2023 sees our host Liz Crocker chat with award-winning theatre artist Ann-Marie Kerr. Known for her work that challenges conventions in a spirit of play and discovery, the Nova Scotia award-winning theatre director, actor, mentor and teacher integrates vivid design, viscerally felt performances, and a precise shaping of narrative, expression, time, and space. Her work has been presented at prestigious theatres and festivals in New York, London, Mumbai, Edinburgh, Sydney, Melbourne, Memphis, Nashville, Cork, and across Canada, including direction of: One Discordant Violin (2b theatre company), Secret Life of A Mother (Theatre Centre, Crow’s Theatre);  Bed and Breakfast (Soulpepper Theatre Company); A Christmas Carol  (Theatre New Brunswick); Daughter (Theatre Centre); I, Claudia (Globe Theatre, Neptune Theatre).

Ms.Kerr is a finalist for the 2022 Smitrovich Prize, which celebrates a professional mid-career director, playwright or designer whose work is transformative and influential. This year’s prize spotlights directors from across Canada who have strengthened the Canadian theatre landscape. The prize will be awarded December 1st, and the experience will surely be one of many topics of conversation.
