Quote the Raven
with Kristen Martell
April 15, 2023
Chester Legion (This venue is wheelchair accessible)
Join us for an uplifting evening of soaring voices, gorgeous harmonies, and stirring songs to fill the soul!
An impromptu trip to Nashville in 2019 set the wheels in motion for the sophomore record from Americana Folk duo, Quote the Raven. The sounds filling the Nashville airways reinvigorated the Newfoundland duo’s inspiration and they found a new home in the Americana genre. Their 2021 record Can’t Hold the Light, is a summation of the journeys that the pair have experienced so far.
Quote the Raven marry smooth vocal harmonies with an, at times, haunting aesthetic that both bewitches and allures the listener. They draw influence from the likes of Joy Williams (Civil Wars), Brandi Carlile, and The Milk Carton Kids. The pair entertain audiences with their quirky, quick wit dynamic that glimpses into the daily lives of touring musicians. These 3-time Music Newfoundland & Labrador award winners (including 2019 and 2021 Group of the Year), also won the 2022 ECMA for Contemporary Roots Recording of the Year, and are nominated for 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards for Vocal Group of the Year and Single of the Year.
Mahone Bay’s Kristen Martell will be the opener for the night. Kristen’s hazy folk pop songs embrace life’s challenges and quiet moments of beauty. With gentle arrangements, haunting harmonies and insightful messages her songs are the perfect soundtrack to ease your melancholy. With an ECMA nomination and three Music Nova Scotia award nominations since her return to music in 2020, she is making a name for herself in the East Coast music scene. Her latest album Every Season is her most confident, self-assured and emotionally compelling work to date.
This will be an evening to soothe the soul; beautiful voices, lush harmonies, pure musical magic.
