JOBS

The Chester Playhouse is an artistic hub, specializing in the presentation of exceptional live performances, which serves the Municipality of Chester, including the village of Chester and surrounding communities. Operating since 1939, we have been a home for music, theatre, films, comedy, speakers and emerging community performances, and continue to present world-class artists from “around the corner” and around the world. Following a fire which damaged our existing Playhouse building, we are quickly pivoting to a “satellite” context, presenting live shows in various venues across our community, in a program we’re calling the “Playhouse Without Walls”.

We are committed to welcoming applicants with disabilities at any stage of the hiring process, and eager to support these individuals in any way that helps them.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At the Chester Playhouse, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.  The Chester Playhouse is eager to provide opportunities to applicants from all backgrounds, and is eager to accommodate the right person who brings a unique viewpoint to our organization.  We encourage all interested parties to reach out if they are interested, to discuss how we can best accommodate your application.

CURRENT OPENINGS

Technical Director

Controller

Technical Director

Job Summary:

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and curious technician to help us navigate our continuing mobile operations, while supporting and eventually taking responsibility for the rebuilt Playhouse building. This is a contract position with variable hours, (based largely around programming in evenings and weekends), with some regular hours devoted to preparations, meetings, consultation and maintenance. This position allows for a good deal of flexibility, allowing outside employment in other areas (including, for example, the many film and television productions taking place in the area).

This role has previously functioned as both technical director and lighting tech, who worked in collaboration with an outside sound technician; we would eagerly maintain this model, if appropriate, but are open to other models, based on the skills of the candidate in this position.

Controller

Job Summary:

The Chester Playhouse invites applicants for the role of Controller to manage the financial record keeping and reporting of our community-focused arts organisation.

We are seeking a positive, organised and detail-oriented individual with experience and expertise in financial record keeping, payroll, reporting, and problem-solving. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director, as well as the Board of Directors, in providing timely and accurate analysis of the organisation’s performance, cashflow, and strategic planning.

After a fire struck the Playhouse in 2021, this is a unique time for our organisation, as we continue our mobile operations, while managing the rebuild of our beloved Playhouse, as well as ongoing reporting and management of related insurance claims.  The ideal candidate for this position will have expertise in crisis management, be able to juggle multiple projects with flair, and feel confident in finding creative solutions to logical, detail-specific problems.
