Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Ocean’s 11) brings us The Christophers, a black comedy caper featuring Ian McKellan and Michaela Coel.
Synopsis:
The children of a once famous artist (McKellen) hire a forger (Coel) to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they’ll have an inheritance when he dies.
The Christophers sits with a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics raving:
“In a six-decade career spanning Shakespeare, Stephen King, Marvel, and Gandalf, this may be the best work of McKellen’s career. No slouch herself, Coel meets his every acting challenge and issues one of her own.”- The Boston Globe
“Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel are crackling good in this knockout from Steven Soderbergh, a playful but hefty encounter between an iconoclastic artist and a forger hired to complete his work.”- The Film Yap
“How do we bring out the best in each other? The Christophers knows, and shows us so expertly it might not get its full due. This is what happens when an artist’s normal standard, like Mr. Soderbergh’s, is so high we forget how hard it is to be this good.” – Movies We Texted About
