The Chester Playhouse is now hiring for the 2026 Summer Season! We are accepting applications for the roles of Marketing Assistant, Technical Assistant, Archivist, and Youth Program Assistant through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Marketing Assistant
Marketing Assistant

Job Summary: 
The Marketing Assistant is responsible for assisting in the marketing efforts of the organization. They will be an integral part of the development and execution of marketing plans to reach targets from brand awareness to promotion.

Duties will include:

Assist in daily marketing initiatives as follows:  

  • Promote Chester Playhouse events and engage with community members through company social media accounts (Facebook, and Instagram).
  • Design and create promotional materials such as posters, flyers, paper ads and online content, including video. 
  • Write marketing and communications material for various platforms such as social media, press releases, newsletters, brochures, programs and website material.
  • Collaborate with the team and generate ideas that will improve the organization. 
  • Assist in website development and social media advertising. 

 

Qualifications (preferred) 

  • Interest in or experience using digital design software (such as Canva or Photoshop).
  • Familiar with using social media publishing features.
  • Experience using an email marketing system such as Mailchimp.
  • Experience using computer software including Google Suite, MS Office, and Adobe. 
  • Experience using WordPress or other web design software would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to use various office equipment and machines including personal computers, photocopiers, printers, etc.

 

Term: 8 weeks (or the equivalent), within the following date range June 29, 2026 – Aug 21, 2026 (These dates may be flexible)

You will usually be working a flexible 35-hour work week for 8 weeks, or the equivalent hours over a longer term (to be negotiated). Normal working hours will be specified in advance by the Executive Director. Any extra hours are to be agreed upon with the Executive Director. Salary: $20/hour

Technical Assistant
Technical Assistant

Job Summary: 

The archivist will oversee the organization of historical records for the Chester Playhouse.  They will directly work in scanning, labelling, uploading existing documents and organizing a large digital archive, to be shared amongst our operations.  

Duties will include:

  • Assist Technical Director with show-related tasks and stage set ups
  • Assist in moving equipment
  • Operate lights, sound, video projection on a per-show basis
  • Clean and organize stage and backstage areas
  • General maintenance and inventory control
  • General theatre duties as assigned
  • Supervise rehearsals and no-tech rentals

 

Qualifications (preferred but not required) 

  • Interest in or experience in theatre 
  • Familiar with Audio and Lighting Systems 
  • Experience using computer software including Google Suite or Qlab 
  • Experience using ETC lighting boards would be considered an asset
  • Experience using Behringer or digital audio boards would be considered an asset

 

Term: 8 weeks (or the equivalent), within the following date range June 23, 2026 –  August 28, 2026 (These dates may be flexible)

You will be working a combination of show calls and technical admin/maintenance calls for 280 hours, the equivalent of 8 weeks at 35 hours/week. Working hours will be variable, including some evenings and weekends, with notice, and reasonable time off between shifts. Archivist
Archivist

Job Summary: 

The archivist will oversee the organization of historical records for the Chester Playhouse.  They will directly work in scanning, labelling, uploading existing documents and organizing a large digital archive, to be shared amongst our operations.  

Duties will include:

  • Learn and navigate the online digital archive
  • Review and organize this archive, moving and copying files, as well as combining folders, as appropriate.  
  • Photograph and scan existing hard copies of documents and images, labelling them, and filing them. 
  • Researching past performances and missing information to complete historical files.  
  • Work as a team and provide positive suggestions for improvement. 
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications (preferred) 

  • Precise, with strong attention to detail and good analytical skills.  
  • Friendly and approachable. 
  • An energetic and creative team player.
  • Confident working independently.
  • Excellent computer skills with an understanding of MS Office, Google Drive and Excel.
  • Willing to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a team.  
  • Passionate about live performances and the arts in general.
 

Term: 8 weeks, within the following date range: June 1st, 2026 – July 24, 2026(these dates may be flexible)

Youth Program Assistant
Youth Program Assistant

Job Summary: 

The Youth Program Assistant will assist in the delivery of Youth Performance training camps, through week-long day camps.  They will aid the camp instructors in managing participants, offer administrative support through sourcing and delivering required materials, liaise with parents and youth to ensure that needs are met, and oversee registrations and follow-ups.  

Duties will include:

  • Aid in the registration of youth, liaising with parents regarding needs. 
  • Preparing relevant information for instructors to deliver their material successfully.
  • Assisting on site with delivery of camp classes, participating as needed, covering breaks, etc. 
  • Anticipating and soliciting needs and sourcing required materials.  
  • Liaising with Technical Staff on the performance of end-of-week showcases. 
  • Managing parent and guest registration for youth showcases. 
  • Soliciting and gathering feedback from youth and parents on each program offered. 
  • Making recommendations about future programs.  

 

Desired Applicant will be/have: 

  • Comfortable and eager to work with youth of various ages.  
  • Friendly and approachable. 
  • Energetic and creative team player.
  • Confident with working independently as the first point of contact for youth and parents. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with an understanding of MS Office, Google Drive and Excel.
  • Organized, reliable, and possessing a strong attention to detail
  • Willing to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a team.  
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about live performances and the arts in general.
  • Able to prioritize and work under pressure with good time management skills. 
  • Able to pass a criminal records check, as well as a vulnerable sector check, for working with youth.
 

Term: 7 weeks within the following date range: July 7th, 2026 –  August 24, 2026
